Startups Wanted: BSH Is Looking for Creative Ideas for the Connected Kitchen
A three-month mentorship-driven bootcamp in Munich, inspiring working atmosphere and access to the network of one of the world’s leading home appliance manufacturer – these are some of the benefits that startups can expect from “BSH Future Home Accelerator Powered by Techstars”. Tibor Kramer, Project Lead, gives us some insights.
Tibor, BSH launches its first Accelerator – called “BSH Future Home Accelerator Powered by Techstars”. Could you explain what that actually is?
Yes, it is quite exciting! An accelerator is a structured three-month bootcamp, where we invite selected external startups to come to Munich in order to put their ideas to work. It is called accelerator because the goal is to speed up their growth and their go-live date to the first turnover. So we target early stage startups, which have a good business idea, but their business models are not perfect yet. They will be mentored in order to sharpen their business model until the proof of concept.
Who are you looking for?
We are looking for startups with disruptive ideas and services for the digital consumer in the kitchen. Ideally, these ideas have the potential to create new revenue streams for BSH purely from digital business models. But we do not want to narrow down the focus too much, that is why we chose the theme “Future Home”.
However, BSH does not do this on its own, but with a company, that already has a lot of experience in this field – Techstars. Why does BSH need a partner?
Techstars is an accelerator specialist that helps entrepreneurs succeed. It is a global network of more than 10,000 founders, mentors and investors. For BSH this cooperation is very helpful for two reasons: first, Techstars have the tools and know how to make startups successful. Second, their network is very attractive for startups.
Could you give a startup three reasons why they should join “BSH Future Home Accelerator Powered by Techstars”?
First, startups benefit from the access to two strong networks, BSH and Techstars. Second, at the end of 2018, BSH will have an installed base of 1 million home appliances including Home Connect, to which the business models of the startups can connect to. And last but not least, startups will benefit from an inspiring working atmosphere and great mentors.
Startups can apply at www.BSHAccelerator.com from July 23. What are the next steps for the startups?
During the recruiting phase until October 2018, the startups can get information about the program, participate in a webinar or “ask me anything” session and get their applications ready.
Apart from inspiring, new and disruptive business ideas – what is BSH’s goal with the Accelerator?
Of course, we hope to find startups which contribute to our success with their business models. Furthermore, the accelerator is also a loud “shout out” to the startup world, that we are open for external innovation. Today, BSH is not that well known yet as company in the startup scene and this has to change. At the same time, we want to contribute as much as we can to the business models of the startups in order to help them succeed. By this, we want to become an attractive partner in the startup scene and also become an attractive employer for digital talents. Besides that, we can learn a lot from the founders that we can use internally at BSH.
