Building a better world together with the United Nations World Food Programme and Joblinge
BSH understands sustainability holistically in its three dimensions: People, planet and profit. We constantly develop and manufacture innovative products that improve quality of life at home, we minimize our environmental footprint, and we take social responsibility. Therefore, we are thrilled to announce collaborations with two impactful organizations.
BSH and the World Food Programme (WFP)
In our collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), we will support its mandate to achieve a world without hunger. Our collaboration will also focus on the response to increasingly critical needs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of their global work, reaching 97 million people in 2019, the World Food Programme was awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
“Acting with purpose is more important than ever for corporates. This collaboration is one way of bringing our purpose to life: to improve the quality of life, says BSH CEO, Carla Kriwet
BSH will support WFP innovations in two emergency contexts in Nigeria and South Sudan, and, as a leader in cooking appliances, we will contribute our expertise in food storing, food processing and healthy eating to innovation teams. This collaboration will occur with support from the WFP Innovation Accelerator, which sources, supports and scales the most impactful start-up innovations that aim for zero hunger through an iterative sprint format. With over 90 innovations, the WFP Innovation Accelerator reached 3.5 million people in 2020.
“Acting with purpose is more important than ever for corporates. This collaboration is one way of bringing our purpose to life: to improve the quality of life, says BSH CEO, Carla Kriwet. “Sufficient nutrition is a basic human right and one of the components of a dignified life. Here we can have a real and sustainable effect on people’s lives and help create opportunities for them to generate their own income whilst also considering the environment. I am very happy and so proud that we will not only financially support the WFP, but also provide our knowledge and skills in order to combat world hunger.”
BSH and JOBLINGE
We are equally pleased to support JOBLINGE, a joint initiative of stakeholders from business, government and civil society. The initiative is enabling young people with initial career difficulties to find an apprenticeship or job through intensive six-month programs helping them examine their own strengths and suitable occupations, and finally gain practical experience in partner companies – for example at a BSH location.
JOBLINGE has already helped more than 10,000 young people get connected in the job market – although all participants have one or more factors that make placement in the job market difficult. Yet, the placement rate in the primary labor market is 75 percent, and the sustainability rate (measured six months after the start of training) is 85 percent.
"Giving people prospects for the future is one of society's most important tasks. This is where we as a company want to fulfill our responsibility and make an important contribution," explains BSH CEO Carla Kriwet. "Thanks to the high placement rate of JOBLINGE, this is a truly sustainable initiative. Since some of JOBLINGE's partner companies had to cancel their assistance due to the economic consequences caused by the Corona pandemic, we are happy that we as BSH can support", says BSH CEO, Carla Kriwet.
"The fact that BSH wants to strengthen our network as a new partner and engage with us in so many ways is something our entire team is thrilled about. Especially in the challenging Corona period, it is a great sign and we are very much looking forward to the joint steps", says Ulrike Garanin, CEO of JOBLINGE.
